NY Showring Policy
- Eligibility- To show at NYHA sanctioned shows, all owners on the registration paper must have a NYHA membership in their specific name (not the farm name). According to the NYHA Membership Policy a farm membership covers animals owned and registered in the farm name. It does not cover partners or family members. Partnerships or family members who own cattle in their name shall have individual memberships.
- Purebred Dairy Cattle Association Show Ring Code of Ethics will be followed
New York Junior Holstein Showring Policy
- Junior Eligibility- Exhibitors must not have reached their 21st birthday by January 1st in the year competing. Minimum age is left up to show management but juniors must be able to handle their animals on their own without assistance from an adult or another junior to be eligible for junior recognition. Juniors must be members of The New York Junior Holstein Association to be eligible for junior recognition.
- Ownership- Animals must be registered in the name of the junior member, or partnership of junior members. Adult-junior and family or farm partnerships are not acceptable. For an animal (heifer or cow) being transferred to a junior, or a partnership of juniors, the transfer application must be received by the Holstein Association USA office on or before July 15 of the year competing.
- Leasing- New York Junior Holstein members may apply for a lease if they currently do not own any registered Holsteins. A maximum of two registered Holsteins may be leased by any youth at one time. Animals may not be leased in partnerships. The New York Junior Holstein lease is only recognized in New York at local, regional and state shows.
- NY Junior Holstein Lease Applications are free but must be submitted to the NY Holstein Office by July 15 at the following link: https://form.jotform.com/241134695116050
- Holstein USA has a lease program with separate rules. Their fee is $20
- Bred & Owned- To be eligible for Junior Bred and Owned, at least one of the name(s) listed as breeder and owner on the registration paper must be the same. Adult-Junior Partnerships are not acceptable. Family unit or farm partnerships will not qualify for Bred and Owned awards unless all partners are Junior members and listed on the certificate under breeder and owner.
- Partnership- More than one Junior exhibitor may own an animal in partnership if the animal is exhibited by the partnership throughout the entire show season and the names of all Junior partners are listed on the registration certificate. Adult-junior and family or farm partnerships are not acceptable.
- Exhibition- Entries must be shown by the junior owner in all cases, except by written approval. The alternate leadsperson must be the same age or younger than the owner of the animal.
- County clubs may amend this rule to allow any junior member the opportunity to show an animal for a junior owner that is unable to exhibit their animal. (For example: the owner has a broken leg, illness, death in the family, etc. This is not meant to contradict #1: “Junior Eligibility- Minimum age is left up to show management but juniors must be able to handle their own animals without assistance from an adult or another junior to be eligible for junior recognition.”)
