Junior Jersey Show Rules:
The exhibitor must be listed as Recorded Owner on the registration certificate, either as the sole owner or by his/her name in joint ownership. If the joint ownership includes more than one person meeting the eligibility requirements of Rule 1 (above), one of them must be declared as the exhibitor at check-in.
Animals must be registered and/or transferred to meet one of the above ownership requirements on or before March 1, 2023 for the NY Carousel Spring Show. The date of registration and/or transfer is the date recorded printed on the registration certificate.

Official Rules and Information
- Obtaining Entries- Information is available online at www.nyholsteins.com and on https://www.facebook.com/NewYorkHolsteinAssociation/. Online only entries may be found at https://showman.app
Please familiarize yourself and your staff with the following:
- Misrepresenting the age and/or milk status of the animal for the class in which it is shown is a violation of the Showring Policy and Code of Ethics
- Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally, with an irritant or counter-irritant or other substance to artificially improve the confirmation is a violation of the Showring Policy and Code of Ethics
- Surgically or unethically inserting any matter under the skin or into any body cavity to change the natural contour or appearance of the animal’s body is prohibited and is a violation of the Showring Policy and Code of Ethics. After 12 a.m. on the day of the show, no administration of fluids by mouth is allowed, unless deemed therapeutically necessary and is then only administered by the
- Show veterinarian. Therapeutic administration of fluids by stomach pump will be allowed at all other times.
- Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management, other exhibitors while in the show-ring or other conduct detrimental to the breed or the show is a violation of the Showring Policy and Code of Ethics. This may result in immediate dismissal from the fairgrounds until further notice.
- Challenging, threatening, or interfering with an ethics committee member appointed by show management to monitor the animals is a violation of the Showring Policy and Code of Ethics. This may result in immediate dismissal from the fairgrounds until further notice.
- Topline hair must not be higher than 1 ½ inches, consistent with the ruler used at World Dairy Expo.
- Ultrasound monitoring will be utilized in the milking cow classes. The top two animals in each class will be required to be ultrasound, with one additional random animal and/ or top placing junior owned animal. Show management reserves the right to select any animal to be ultrasounded.
Violations will be reported to show management and the necessary action taken.
- Entry Fees and Deadlines- All entries must be entered online by 2025 for acceptance at the initial entry fee. Substitutions may be made within the same entry fee before deadlines. On time entry fees are as follows:
- Open show classes $55 each
- NE Spring National JUNIOR Holstein Show is $35 per entry (1 show)
- Combination Rate: Junior Holstein Show & Red and White Show or National Holstein Show $ 60 per entry (2 Shows)
- Combination Rate : Junior Holstein Show, Red and White Show, and The National Holstein Show $65 per entry. (3 shows)
- Junior Jersey Show is $35 per entry (1 show)
- Combination Rate: Junior Jersey Show and Open Jersey Show (2 shows) $60

- Stall Assignments- Indicate who your animals will be tied with Stall assignments will be made by the Superintendents. You will be stalled by the number of animals you bring, not the number of animals you entered. **No stall changes without approval from Show Superintendents.
- Cattle Check-In- Contact Show team when your string is in place for early check-in. Final Check-in will be on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. by the show office. Please bring your registration papers and official health certificates to check-in. No animal may be shown unless it has been officially checked in. All registration papers and health certificates (CVI) must remain with the cattle. All cattle must be in place by 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024.
- Registration Papers- Must be available for all entries at check-in. Signed transfers accompanied with the appropriate transfer fee will be accepted. Transfers will be collected by the check-in staff and submitted to the appropriate breed registry. All animals must be registered (87% or higher or otherwise sanctioned by breed association). No animal may be shown without a valid registration certificate. No exceptions. No pending registrations. A signed transfer is allowed as proof of ownership. R&W animals of any age may be shown in the R&W show using their Holstein USA registration paper. They do not need a separate RWDCA registration paper. There is no cutoff date for junior ownership.
- Show Procedures- All exhibitors must wear white pants and a show harness. The correct back tag number must accompany the animal at ringside for check in and hair measure. Exhibitors must enter the ring at the designated entrance after being approved by staff. After the judge has evaluated all animals in the ring; the class will be closed and no other animals may enter the ring.
- Premier Awards- Awards based on the exhibiting of six or less animals in each breed who accumulate the highest total points. All breeds will have a Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor awarded, as well as a Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor of the Heifer Show. In the case of a tie, the points calculated based on the next animal (7th). Premier Breeder and Exhibitor sheets will be passed out at check in and must be turned in to the show management prior to the Senior Champion awards.
- Premier Exhibitor- The exhibitor must be the owner. Where a herd is registered or bred in the names of different family members, residing on one farm or breeding establishment, and where the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as a single exhibit. However, members of one family, where the cattle are not housed as one unit, will not be considered as a single exhibitor. The exhibitor winning the most points (for a max of six animals which they own and exhibit in the open single classes) shall be designated as the Premier Exhibitor. Partnership animals are to be used by only one partner for exhibitor points and are to be provided on the Premier Exhibitor form prior to start of show.
- Premier Breeder- The owner of the dam at the time of service shall be considered the breeder of the animal. Where a herd is registered or bred in the names of different family members, residing on one farm or breeding establishment, and where the herd is one unit, all entries may be considered as a single exhibit. Otherwise, when animals are bred in partnership, each unique partnership is considered a unique breeder. The exhibitor winning the most points (for a max of six animals which they own and exhibit in the open single classes) shall be designated as the Premier Breeder.

- Junior Showmanship- All juniors are invited and must pre-register online for the showmanship contest. Juniors do not have to own or officially lease the animal that they are showing in showmanship. Showmanship will be divided into different age classes based on registration. The first two placings in each class will be eligible to compete in the Master Showman class.
- Junior Judging Contest- All are welcome. Advanced registration is highly encouraged but not required. Individual team placings in Novice, Junior, Senior and Collegiate divisions. The official judge will place the class, give reasons and answer questions. This is a competitive event, but also an excellent opportunity to learn from experts.
- Champion and Group Classes- Each member must have been entered and shown in their individual class
- Champion Bred and Owned Class- From 1st place bred and owned in each individual class
- Produce of Dam- Shall consist of two offspring from one cow, any age. Both animals need not be owned by the same exhibitor.
- Dam and Daughter- Shall consist of two animals, the dam and her daughter, any age. Both animals need not be owned by the same exhibitor.
- Junior Best Three Females- Shall consist of three females, all under two years of age, all to have been bred by the exhibitor and have the same prefix.(For NY Jr Holstein Show exhibitors- see rule 6 under Jr. Show Rules)
- Best Three Females- Shall consist of three females, any age, all to have been bred by the exhibitor and have the same prefix.(For NY Jr Holstein Show exhibitors- see rule 7 under Jr. Show Rules)
- Red and White Exhibitors- All animals must be true red and white in color. Black-red and brindles are not eligible. All exhibitors (open and junior) are requested to be Red and White Dairy Cattle Association members to show in the Red and White Show. To qualify for the RWDCA All-American contest, Red and White exhibitors must be current RWDCA members. R&W animals of any age may be shown in the R&W show using their Holstein USA registration paper. They do not need a separate RWDCA registration paper.
- Sharps- You are required to use the containers throughout the barns to dispose of sharps. Do not throw sharps in the garbage or pack.
- Milk Disposal- The only approved area to dump milk is down the drains in the wash rack. Do not dump anywhere else.
- Garbage- All garbage must be disposed of in the garbage cans located throughout the barn. DO NOT throw any garbage (cans, bottles, plastic, shavings bags, etc) in wheelbarrows or manure pits.
- Departure- Cattle will be allowed to leave at the conclusion of their respective shows. Make sure your area is picked up and garbage is disposed of in garbage cans. Please be mindful and respectful of those who are still preparing for their shows.
2024 Northeast Spring National Junior Holstein Show Rules
- Eligibility- Exhibitors must be a minimum of nine years old to participate, but not have reached their 21st birthday by January 1 in the year competing. Members who become 21 years of age during the current year will be allowed to compete in junior activities until December 31st of the current year and not beyond that time. Exhibitors must be national Junior Members of the Holstein Association USA, Inc. Juniors may submit applications on site for national junior membership with payment to the Show Management by 5:00 p.m. the day before the show.
- Entries- All animals must be registered by the Holstein Association USA, Inc. and have a minimum of 87% Registered Holstein Ancestry. The Junior owner or lessee must be recorded on the registration certificate. All entries must be entered online by Wednesday, March 15, 2024 for acceptance at the regular entry fee. On time entry fees are as follows:
- NE Spring National JUNIOR Holstein Show is $35 per entry (1 show)
- Combination Rate: Junior Holstein Show & Red and White Show or National Holstein Show $ 60 per entry (2 Shows)
- Combination Rate : Junior Holstein Show, Red and White Show, and The National Holstein Show $65 per entry. (3 shows)
- Ownership- Animals must be registered in the name of the Junior member, or a partnership of Junior members, throughout the year exhibiting in order to qualify for Junior recognition. Adult-Junior and family or farm partnerships are not acceptable. For an animal (cow or heifer) being transferred to a Junior, or a partnership of Juniors, the transfer application must be received by the Holstein Association USA office on or before July 15th. The following actions will disqualify an animal from Junior recognition:
- Transferring an animal in or out of a Junior’s name after July 15 of the show year
- Adding or dropping any adult or junior member as an owner after the deadline
- Lease- The lease program is available to any youth who does not own any Registered Holsteins. A maximum of two Registered Holsteins may be leased by any youth at one time (no partnerships allowed). The animal must be leased before she reaches her first birthday. The owner of the animal to be leased must submit the Certificate of Registration and a completed Application for Transfer with the “lease” box checked to the Holstein Association USA, Inc. The leased animal can only be shown by the junior lessee (no substitutions). If the leased animal is shown by an adult, the lease is automatically terminated. The lease may be terminated by either the owner or lessee with at least a 45 day written notice to either party.
- Exhibition- To be eligible to compete at National Shows, entries must be shown by the junior owner in all cases, except by prior written approval. A junior Holstein member the same age or younger may be substituted. Adults are not allowed to show or assist. A leased animal may only be shown by the junior lessee, no substitutions allowed. White pants are required for all shows.
- Bred and Owned- To be eligible for Junior Bred and Owned, the names listed as breeder and owner on the registration certificate must be the same. If one of the Junior’s ages out and it’s transferred to the Junior that's still a Junior they will get recognition for Bred and Owned
- Partnership- More than one Junior exhibitor may own an animal in partnership if the animal is exhibited by the partnership throughout the entire show season and the names of all Junior partners are listed on the registration certificate. Adult-Junior and family or farm partnerships are not acceptable.
- Violations- If any part of the above Junior Showring Policy is violated, all Junior exhibitors involved will lose all privileges for that show the following year.
- Group Classes-
- Junior Best Three Females- Three animals, under two years of age, bred and owned by the exhibitor.
- Best Three Females- Three animals, any age, bred and owned by the exhibitor.
2024 NY Carousel Junior Jersey Show Rules
Junior Jersey Show Rules:
- Exhibitors- Exhibitors must be at least 9 and no older than 21 years of age as of January 1. U.S. residents must be members (junior or lifetime) of the American Jersey Association.
- Entries- Animals are eligible when recorded by the American Jersey Cattle Association in the Herd Register or with Generation Count 4 or greater, or by Jersey Canada with registry status of 93.75% or greater.
The exhibitor must be listed as Recorded Owner on the registration certificate, either as the sole owner or by his/her name in joint ownership. If the joint ownership includes more than one person meeting the eligibility requirements of Rule 1 (above), one of them must be declared as the exhibitor at check-in.

- Participation- Entries must be shown by the exhibitor, except by prior written approval from Show Management. Alternate leads persons must be eligible to show by age (Rule 1 above) or if not, be the same age or younger than the exhibitor of the animal being shown. Requests for alternate leadsperson must be submitted for approval by Show Management by 5:00 p.m. the day before the show. Adults are not allowed to show junior animals in any case.
- Breeder Status- In order to qualify for Best Bred and Owned awards, the exhibitor declared at check-in must have their name recorded as a Breeder on the animal’s registration certificate. This award will be made only to the individual exhibitor declared in the case of partnership animals.
- Group Classes:
- Junior Best Three Females- Three animals, under two years of age, bred and owned by the exhibitor.
- Best Three Females- Three animals, any age, bred and owned by the exhibitor.
